Supervisors approve filling positions

JOHNSTOWN – Fulton County supervisors this week gave County Clerk-elect Ann Nickloy permission to fill the deputy clerk position she will be vacating once she takes office Jan. 1.

The Board of Supervisors’ Finance Committee discussed the matter during two vacancy reviews Monday at the County Office Building.

Nickloy, the current deputy county clerk, will be assuming office at the start of the year as new county clerk. She will replace William Eschler, who is retiring. Nickloy ran unopposed for the four-year position in November.

During its monthly vacancy review, the committee gave Nickloy permission to immediately fill the position after it becomes vacant Jan. 1. The full board gave its permission when it met in the afternoon.

The committee also gave permission to Department of Social Services Commissioner Sheryda Cooper to fill a $26,681-per-year temporary account clerk/typist position in DSS. The position is vacant because an appointee did not pass an account clerk/typist exam.

Cooper said 83 percent of the position’s compensation is reimbursed by the state and federal governments.

Cooper also told supervisors she expects the DSS staff development coordinator to resign. The salary for the position is $42,167 annually, paid by state and federal government.

“The lady in the position is moving out of state,” she said.

Cooper said this will result in a permanent vacancy in a position that “plays an integral part in keeping the department moving forward.”

She said the staff development coordinator helped DSS get new staff “up and functioning” this past year when the department experienced a “flurry” of turnovers.

“This is a very important position,” she said. “I don’t know what we would have done without this.”
