Mayfield man appears in court

MAYFIELD-A man accused of sex abuse appeared in Town Court on Tuesday, only to have another appearance scheduled for Feburary.

Richard Hastings, 18, of 171 Yates Road, pleaded not guilty to first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child in October.

Appearing in Town Court on Tuesday, Fulton County District Attorney Louise Sira said no progress had been made on the federal case against Richard Hastings due to an ongoing search of a computer seized during the arrest.

Town Justice John Papa adjourned the matter until Feb. 11.

Both Richard and his brother, Robert Hastings, 21, were charged in August by federal authorities with producing child pornography.

Authorities said Richard Hastings produced sexually explicit photographs of a child and posted some of them on a website. He also emailed some to an undercover investigator, authorities said. According to an affidavit, the victim said the Hastings brothers touched the child’s private area.

Robert Hastings was previously released into the custody of his parents.
