Shop locally this season

While Thanksgiving has traditionally been a day off for many people, that is rapidly changing.

More stores will be open for business today, as the craze of the Christmas shopping season strikes ever earlier.

When our readers go shopping – today, Black Friday or any day – we remind them to try to shop in the local area.

Spending money this season in Fulton, Montgomery and Hamilton counties can save gas, time and maybe even a few dollars.

There are many local stores that sell a wide variety of items, including clothing, name-brand accessories, music, books, food and artwork.

Buying an item locally also can be a great way to ensure a unique, one-of-a-kind gift for family or friends who are not from the area. Sometimes, the best form of advertisement for the local area is showing people what is available here with gifts.

Of course, buying products in the local area also keeps sales tax dollars here – where they are needed more than in many areas of the Capital Region.
