Woman charged after standoff with cops

GLOVERSVILLE – A woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly threatened another woman with a shotgun on East State Street over what police are calling a “business transaction.”

Tara Hoyt, 34, whose last known address was 41 Parkwood Ave., Johnstown, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.

Police said they responded to 8 E. State St. after receiving a report of a female being threatened with a gun. Police said they arrived and learned Hoyt had retreated to the upstairs apartment and was refusing to come out.

Authorities said they didn’t know if there were occupants in the apartment. After a brief stand-off, officers were able to convince her to come outside, police said.

Hoyt was taken into custody. Three other occupants of the apartment were detained and interviewed.

Police said Hoyt had gone outside with the shotgun and threatened a woman. The shotgun was recovered, police said.

Detective Sgt. Mike Jory said the dispute was “over a business transaction” but declined to elaborate.

Hoyt was arraigned and sent to the Fulton County Jail. She will return to court today.
