Event returns at Old Fort Johnson
FORT?JOHNSON – The Holiday Open House will return to Old Fort Johnson after a two-year break for recovery from Tropical Storm Irene, a news release said.
The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to a news release, the event will feature colonial decorations, self-guided tours of the Old Fort, holiday music, complimentary refreshments, and a holiday gift shop stocked with local history books, local honey and more. On both days, there will be a tea tasting, a tin smithing demonstration, 18th century toys and games to try, a rug hooking demonstration, and a “What am I?” table of antique artifacts.
On Saturday, Bob Cudmore will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to talk about his new book “Hidden History of the Mohawk Valley,” and to autograph copies for purchase. The Liaisons Plaisantes will play music Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, Rachelle Cotugno will sing holiday carols in the front parlor of the Old Fort.
Admission will be free, but donations are appreciated.? ?
The event will be part of Heritage Holidays in the Mohawk Valley, a collaboration of holiday celebrations taking place three weekends at eight local historic sites, the release said. People can pick up a passport, visit at least three of the sites and get entered into a drawing for a gift basket.
