Fly-in raises needed funds
This was the 10th year the Johnstown Radio Controlled Flyers’ Club’s annual giant-scale fly-in event benefited the Brennan Humane Society’s free pet food bank for the seniors of Fulton County. They have raised almost $20,000 for it. We can never thank them enough for their hard work and generosity of spirit.
It looks easy, but putting together this event requires many hours of preparation and hard work. Their families give up time with members and are often seen working the event, so we want to thank them as well. Also, thank you to the kids who help out at the Humane Society’s booth. When the event is over, planning is begun for the next year, so the work is never over.
It is a great and inexpensive family day and we want to thank everyone who comes out because without their attendance, it would not be as successful. For those who have not been, we hope to see you next year. It also is dog friendly as long as they are on leashes and well behaved.
We want to thank the Murphys, of the Tower Shops and H&M Equipment Rentals, whose flyovers in WWII fighter planes are always exciting. I must say, guys, this year, your flyover was unbelievably exciting.
We also want to thank the sponsors because without their support, the event could not be a success: The Railside Cafe, The Carden Family Auction, 4 Corner Tire Company, Sacandaga Outdoor Equipment & Self Storage, Jim Montgomery Roofing, Amsterdam Auto Parts, Eglelston Energy Co., Mohawk Valley Orthopedics PC, The Bill Dexter Quartet, Vern’s Auto Body Sales and Service, Epimed International Inc. and Brown’s Drywall LLC.
Knowing that seniors and their pets go to bed with full bellies and wake up the next morning without worrying about their next meal always brings a smile to my face, and I hope it does the same for you.
As always, we ask the community to support these businesses, which, even in these difficult times, still help their community. Keep your much-needed tax dollars at home.
