Caroga board OKs budget
CAROGA – The Town?Board unanimously approved the town budget for 2014 at its meeting?Wednesday.
The budget includes a 4-cent increase in the tax rate from 2013. The total budget will be $2.1 million, up from this year’s $2.03 million.
The total tax rate for 2013 is $6.92 per $1,000 of assessed property value, which includes an 88-cent fire tax. The tax rate for 2014 will be $6.96.
According to town Supervisor Ralph Ottuso, one of the reasons for the increase in the budget for 2014 is a rise in the town highway superintendent’s salary.
According to the budget sheet, Highway?Superintendent?Steve Putman will earn more than $42,000 in 2014. In 2013, he made more than $41,000.
The budget also shows an increase to the town’s fire contract, which increases from $108,000 in 2013 to $113,000 in 2014.
