Donald J. ‘Satch’ Satterlee

Donald J. “Satch” Satterlee, age 75, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.

Born on February 1, 1938, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Mattison Satterlee.

Donald was a 1956 graduate of Gloversville High School.

He was employed as a youth aide at the former Tryon School until his retirement.

Satch was a coach for the Johnstown Little League, Babe Ruth League, and CYO Basketball. He served on the board of directors for the Johnstown YMCA. He was past president and life member of the Concordia Club, Gloversville, and past president of the CSEA Tryon Unit. He was a member of the Royal Mountain Moonlighters, the Johnstown Loyal Order of the Moose and the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club.

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and four wheeling. He played both fast pitch and slow pitch softball in various leagues. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and supporting them in all of their activities, especially their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Mellis Satterlee, whom he married on June 20, 1959; his children, Michael (Gigi) Satterlee of Johnstown, Sharon (Gregg) Roth of Johnstown, Sue (Bill) Pulis of Johnstown, Greg (Kim) Satterlee of Johnstown, Stacey (Rich) Lee of Johnstown and Donald (Kathy) Satterlee Jr. of New Jersey; grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, John, Jeffrey, Jason, Phillip, Kayla, Veronica, Jake, Richie, Derek, Rachel, Anna, Hayley, Hannah, and Aiden; one brother, Gene (Barb) Satterlee; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Holy Trinity Parish, Glebe Street, Johnstown.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Center for Donation & Transplant, 218 Great Oaks Boulevard, Albany, New York 12203.

Following the services on Thursday the family would like to extend an invitation to Pino’s Restaurant to celebrate Satch’s life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
