James H. Wilson

James H. Wilson, age 88, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, formerly of Johnstown, New York, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at The New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Born on March 28, 1925, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Harry Wilson and Julia Krikelas Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a Class of 1943 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a veteran of World War II, honorably serving in the Army Corps of Engineers in the China-Burma and India (CBI) Theater of Operations. James was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Technician Third Grade.

Upon returning from service, he joined the family business, Wilson Supermarket Inc., until its closure in 1959. Mr. Wilson then joined his brother, Peter at the Rainbow Restaurant until his retirement.

He was a member of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, Massachusetts and previously a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady, New York. He was a 60 year member of St. Patrick’s Lodge No. 4, Cyprus Temple Shriners, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. James was a former member of the Adirondack Shrine Club, Johnstown Moose, Johnstown Eagles, Fish and Game Club, V.F.W. and Nick Stoner Golf Course. Mr. Wilson also bowled in the Enterprise, Merchants and Tri-City Leagues.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Niki (Tsirka) Wilson of Loutropegi, Greece, whom he married on January 31, 1971; one son, Harry Wilson and his wife, Eva of Scarsdale, New York; and one daughter, Susan Mitchell and her husband, Aaron of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Alexandra, Victoria, Arianna and Madeline Wilson of Scarsdale, New York and Lea and Christopher Mitchell of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; two brothers, Russell and Peter Wilson of Johnstown, New York; one sister, Mary Hannahs of Niskayuna, New York; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was predeceased by one sister, Katherine Wilson; and one brother, George Wilson.

A Greek Orthodox funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1 North Market Street, Johnstown, with the Very Rev. Archimandrite Agathonikos Michael Wilson, nephew of the deceased, of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Concord, New Hampshire presiding, assisted by the Rev. Fr. Theodore Roupas of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, November 1, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown, with a Masonic Ritual to be conducted at 6 p.m. and the Trisagion service to be held at 7 p.m.

Interment with full military honors will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
