Man accused of having a stolen vehicle

GLOVERSVILLE – A city man was arrested Monday and charged with being in possession of a car that was stolen from Chattanooga, Tenn., police said.

Jerald F. Randolph, 29, of 14 Grove St., was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

Police said Randolph was charged on an active warrant for criminal possession of stolen property after officers conducted a vehicle stop on Allen Street and he was found to be driving the vehicle.

Capt. John Sira said the vehicle was a 1993 Honda Accord, which Randolph had purchased off Craigslist in Connecticut and brought back to the city.

He said Randolph initially was stopped and arrested Sept. 20 for outstanding City Court bench warrants and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. A vehicle check later revealed the car had been reported stolen, bringing the additional charge Monday, Sira said.

“He was arrested for possession of stolen property,” Sira said. “He didn’t get arrested for stealing the vehicle.”

He said arrangements are being made to return the vehicle to the jurisdiction of the Chattanooga Police Department.
