Herkimer volleyball wins championship
HUDSON – The Herkimer County Community College women’s volleyball team won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship on Saturday at Columbia-Greene Community College.
In the championship match, Herkimer posted a 3-2 win over SUNY Adirondack, winning by scores of 25-29, 19-25, 24-26, 25-12 and 15-12.
Johnstown graduate Brynn Hlozansky had 19 digs, nine kills and two aces for the Generals, while Dolgeville graduate Ashley Mettler posted 12 kills and 12 digs. Johnstown graduate Zara Hyde finished with 21 assists, 12 digs, four kills and three aces for Herkimer
In the semifinals, Herkimer posted a 3-1 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College, prevailing by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-21.
Hlozansky posted 12 digs, seven kills and two aces for Herkimer (23-10 overall), while Hyde had 20 assists, nine digs and two aces. Mettler added 12 digs and six kills.
Hlozansky was named the conference’s co-Player of the Year.
Herkimer will compete at the Region III Championship on Saturday at Niagara County Community College.
