Class D Volleyball: Mayfield moves on

MAYFIELD – Mackenzie Biggers posted 15 assists, seven service points and five digs, leading Mayfield to a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 seed Lake George in the Section II Class D volleyball quarterfinals Friday at Mayfield High School.

The third-seeded Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-23.

Jordan Marshall finished with 10 kills, five service points and two aces for Mayfield (14-3 overall), while Kaylee Bumpus registered 11 kills, seven service points and two blocks. Bailey Ward added nine service points and three kills for the Lady Panthers, while Miranda Eagan posted nine assists, seven kills and three blocks.

Brianna Eagan recorded five digs for Mayfield and Kiera Davis added five service points.

Paige Edwards had a 10-point service run in the first game for Lake George. She also posted seven digs and four kills. Cassie Sipowicz registered 13 assists, seven service points and six digs for the Warriors, while Maddie Sullivan posted six service points, six digs, three kills and two aces. Annalee Eigo finished with nine digs and five service points for Lake George, and Gabby Heunemann added five kills.

Mayfield will face No. 2 seed Fort Edward in the Class D semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Saratoga Springs High School. The Flying Forts swept No. 7 seed Canajoharie in the quarterfinals Friday.

Lake George, which swept No. 11 seed Schoharie 3-0 in Wednesday’s first round, finished its season 13-6 overall.

Fort Edward 3, Canajoharie 0

FORT EDWARD – Lexi Thomas posted 16 digs, eight kills and seven service points to lead second-seeded Fort Edward to a sweep of seventh-seeded Canajoharie.

The Flying Forts won by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19.

Kaicey Sardina finished with 31 assists, 12 service points and two kills for Fort Edward (18-1 overall), while Alex Godfrey had six kills and five digs.

Brittni Sardina posted 30 digs, six points and four aces for Fort Edward, and Bailie Roberts added 11 kills and five service points.

Shyanna Logan had eight kills and five digs for Canajoharie, while Abbey Dearwester had 12 assists, five kills and three blocks. Shelby Mead added four blocks and one aces for the Lady Cougars.

Fort Edward will face No. 3 seed Mayfield in the semifinals Wednesday at Saratoga Springs High School at 7 p.m. Mayfield swept No. 6 seed Lake George on Friday.

Canajoharie finished its season with a 13-4 overall record.
