H.S. Football Roundup: Dolgeville upsets Weedsport, 27-20

WEEDSPORT – Jason Nastovski rushed for two touchdowns, leading eighth-seeded Dolgeville to a 27-20 win over top-seeded Weedsport in the Section III Class D quarterfinals Friday.

Nastovski scored on runs of 6 and 9 yards for the Blue Devils (7-1 overall), while Johann Doerrer caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Reid Johnson.

Kasey Foster scored the final touchdown for Dolgeville, recovering a fumble in the end zone.

Lance Myers scored on a 31-yard run for Weedsport (7-1 overall), while Hunter Bowden threw two touchdown passes. Austin Napolitano caught a 10-yard TD pass, while Austin McDeid caught an 8-yard TD pass. Bowden finished 17-for-28 for 139 yards.

Dolgeville will face the winner of today’s Sandy Creek-West Canada Valley game in next week’s semifinal game.

Amsterdam 48, Averill Park 34

AVERILL PARK – Amsterdam’s Bryan Stanavich ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to lead Amsterdam to a 48-34 victory over Averill Park in the Class A quarterfinals.

Stanavich scored on runs of 44, 35 and 80 yards, while also catching a 30-yard touchdown pass from Julian Gallup.

Amsterdam trailed 28-20 at the half before outscoring Averill Park 28-6 in the second half.

Hector Diaz scored on a 33-yard run for the Rugged Rams, while Gallup added a 58-yard touchdown run.

Marcus Pritchard had two field goals for the Rams, connecting from 33 and 41 yards

Chris Arnold scored on an 80-yard run for Averill Park (4-4 overall), while Jake Mosher returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown.

Garrett Ryan scored on runs of 1 and 7 yards for the Warriors, while Ben Rice added a 9-yard TD run.

Amsterdam (5-3 overall) will face the winner of today’s Queensbury-Bishop Maginn game in next weekend’s semifinals.

Johnstown 41, Hudson 13

HUDSON – Adam Caputo scored three touchdowns as Johnstown posted a win over Hudson.

“The kids played great,” Johnstown coach Matt Benton said. “They did great job and played the game they needed to play.”

Matt Szurek rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown and passed for 51 yards and a touchdown for the Sir Bills, who rolled up 518 yards of offense.

Ryan Auty caught a touchdown pass and rushed for another score for Johnstown (3-5 overall). Auty rushed for 132 yards for the Sir Bills, while Anthony Mowrey rushed for 74 yards.
