More counts lodged

GLOVERSVILLE – A woman who previously was arrested on a charge of cruelty to animals now is facing an additional nine charges related to leaving felines at her previous residence after moving, city police said.

Hope M. Litchfield, 30, who authorities said lives in Fonda, was charged with four counts of animal abandonment and five counts of cruelty to animals, all misdemeanors.

Litchfield was arrested on a warrant on Sept. 26 after she and her boyfriend Jeremy T. Stanton abandoned five kittens inside their apartment on Washington Street, according to police.

Authorities said the two left the animals without food and water, and the animals were in need of medical attention.

Capt. John Sira said Litchfield and Stanton were living together before leaving the apartment. The Department of Social Services conducted a home visit and found the cats at the property were emaciated and had medical problems, Sira said.

Stanton, 27, of 112 Washington St., was charged with abandonment of animals and cruelty to animals.

Officials said the cats have recovered and all but one have been adopted.
