H.S. Football Roundup: Rensselaer runs past Canajoharie

CANAJOHARIE – The Cougars will open the Section II Class D tournament on the road after Rensselaer picked up the second-seed in the South Division with its 40-14 victory Friday.

The Rams were paced by Tyler Harwood who carried the ball eight times for 78 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 56 yards.

James Steven added a touchdown with 91 yards on five carries and Steve Harwood had 59 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Nate Ferguson led the Canajoharie ball carriers with 124 yards on 22 rushes, while Jace Fox had two touchdowns and 23 yards on four rushes. Fox also collected 149 yards in a 4-for-16 passing performance and was intercepted once.

Section III Class D East

Dolgeville 49, Waterville 15

WATERVILLE – Jason Nastovski rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries, powering Dolgeville to a win over Waterville.

Devin Coonradt gained 157 yards and scored once on five carries for the Blue Devils, who led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-7 at the half.

Kasey Foster had a 24-yard touchdown run for Dolgeville, while Carson Dobson scored on a 37-yard run for the Blue Devils.

Zach Sawyer scored on a 6-yard pass from Jon Piersma for Waterville (4-3 overall). Piersma also added a 33-yard touchdown run for Waterville.

Dolgeville (6-1 overall, 5-1 Class D East) now awaits the pairings for the Section III Class D Tournament, which will be announced Sunday.

Fonda-Fultonville 18, Ticonderoga 14

TICONDEROGA – Russ Williams threw two touchdown passes to Will Turner, leading Fonda-Fultonville to a non-league win over Ticonderoga.

The Braves were originally scheduled to face Catholic Central in their regular-season finale, but the Crusaders were forced to bow out due to injuries and illness.

Williams threw a 26-yard pass to Turner in the second quarter and a 12-yard pass to Turner in the third quarter for the game-winning score.

Anthony Sinicropi opened the scoring for Fonda-Fultonville with a 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Cam Wright scored on a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for the Sentinels (5-2 overall), who were ranked 17th in the latest state Class D rankings.

Mike Graney threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Ty Denno in the second quarter for Ticonderoga’s final touchdown.

Fonda-Fultonville improved to 6-1 overall with the win. The Braves now await the pairings for the Section II Class C Tournament, which will be announced Sunday. FFCS, the No. 2 seed in the Class C South Division, will host a quarterfinal game next Saturday.
