Cross Country Roundup: B-P girls, Gloversville boys post Foothills wins

GLOVERSVILLE – The Broadalbin-Perth girls and Gloversville boys cross-country teams each posted a pair of wins in a Foothills Council meet Tuesday at Gloversville High School.

Broadalbin-Perth topped Gloversville 15-50 and earned a win over an incomplete Johnstown squad to sweep the girls meet. Gloversville earned a split with a win over Johnstown.

The Gloversville boys defeated Johnstown 24-33 and Broadalbin-Perth 24-35. Johnstown earned a split with a 25-30 win over B-P.

In the girls meet, Broadalbin-Perth swept the top five spots. Jordyn DeNeuville won the 3.1-mile girls race with a time of 19:33.5. Victoria Opalka (20:01.0) was second for B-P, Mackenzie DeZolt (20:38.0) was third, Sarah Naple (20:38.2) was fourth and Coreena Monroe (20:38.4) was fifth.

Cassandra Ryan (20:48.5) was sixth to lead Gloversville.

Alex Opalka (21:25.0) was seventh for B-P, while Cadey Nolan (21:25.5) was eighth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Gloversville’s Sarah Ambrosino (21:52.0) in ninth and Gloversville’s Tierney VanDeusen (22:35.2) in 10th.

Skylar Swatt led Johnstown, placing 14th with a time of 23:39.2. Lyndsey Fiore (24:40.5) was 16th for the Lady Bills, Bridget Spagnuola (29:15.7) was 24th and Tatyana Rosario (30:45.0) was 25th.

Other B-P finishers included Renee Bellinger (11th, 22:50.8), Joanna Tavolaro (15th, 24:27.5), Victoria Laurange (18th, 25;10.5), Madison Bollart (20th, 26:12.6), Julie Capito (20th, 26:24.1) and Breanne Mosher (28:55.8).

Rounding out the Gloversville finishers were Katie Senzio (12th, 23;04.7), Emily Ambrosino (13th, 23:18.6), Haley Schuyler (17th, 25:10.2), Veronica Peck (19th, 25:31.2) and Kayla Murphy (22nd, 27:23.3).

In the boys meet, Broadalbin-Perth’s Greg Bogdan won the 3.1-mile race with a time of 16:06.0.

Gloversville’s Jack Hayes (16:59.1) was second, Gloversville’s Phil Meher (17;06.1) was third, Johnstown’s Aaron Alvarez (17:13.1) was fourth and Broadalbin-Perth’s Alex Hitrick (17:23.6) was fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Gloversville’s Hunter Marshall (sixth, 17:31.1), Johnstown’s Daeshan Buseck (seventh, 17:33.5), Johnstown’s Cameron Roten (eighth, 17:43.7), Gloversville’s Samuel Brunetto (ninth, 18:06.2) and Gloversville’s Justin Unislawski (10th, 18:49.7).

Other Gloversvile finishers included Tyler Unislawski (12th, 19:34.0), Anthony Hayes (13th, 19:47.2), Tyler Rulison (14th, 19:55.5), Christopher Hernandez (15th, 20:06.7), Jacob Perez (16th, 20:47.0) and Nick Brock (20th, 26:30.2).

Devlin Bahruth (21:28.5) was 17th for Johnstown, while Devon Beekman-Wiliams (22nd, 39:41.0) was 22nd.

Other B-P finishers included Jacob Mosher (11th, 19:29.7), Hunter Martin (18th, 21:45.0), Nicolai Mosher (19th, 24:15.4) and Tim Zukas (21st, 27:21.0).


Mayfield boys sweep meet

SCOTIA – The Mayfield boys placed three runners in the top five on their way to wins over Mekeel Christian Academy and Cherry Valley-Springfield at Collins Park.

Josh Gallup won the 2.72-mile boys race for the Panthers, finishing with a time of 16:26. Connor Akowicz (17:04) was second for Mayfield, while Mitch Akowicz (17:40) was fifth.

Cherry Valley-Springfield’s Jon Magyar (17:10) was third and Mekeel Christian’s Curtis Galarneau (17:35) was fourth.

Austin Davis (19:01) placed eighth for Mayfield.

In the girls meet, there were no complete teams.

Mayfield swept the top three spots in the 2.72-mile girls race, with Emily Cromie (22:00) first, Kelsey Wasson (22:52) second and Emily Barker (23:37) third.

Cherry Valley-Springfield’s Addie Walison (29:40) was fourth and Cherry Valley-Springfield’s Amelia Sharp (30:31) was fifth.

C-FP boys, girls sweep meet

GALWAY – The Canajoharie boys and girls each posted a pair of Western Athletic Conference wins over Galway and Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

In the boys meet, C-FP topped Galway 22-33 and Berne-Knox-Westerlo 25-33. BKW earned a split with a 23-42 win over Galway.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Lucas Becker won the boys race, while Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Ruben McFarlane was second. C-FP’s Jon Payack was third,, BKW’s Kyle Anderson was fourth and BKW’s Greg Gustafson completed the top five.

Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Lucas Steenburg was seventh, while Andrew Hanifin was ninth.

In the girls meet, Canajoharie-Fort Plain defeated Galway 18-38 and Berne-Knox-Westerlo 25-30. BKW earned a split with an 18-37 win over host Galway.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Annie Laura Schafer won the first race, while BKW’s Allie Tedeschi was second. Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Cheyenne Munson was third, C-FP’s Gabby Bridgewater was fourth and Galway’s Lindsey Carlson was fifth. Breanna Hazzard was sixth for C-FP, while Alexis Kane was seventh and Abby Boyer was eighth.

FFCS boys top Voorheesville

VOORHEESVILLE – The Fonda-Fultonville boys swept the top three spots to post a 19-42 win over Voorheesville.

Cameron Gilligan won the 3.1-mile race for the Braves with a time of 18:27. Dylan DeSorbo (18:33) was second for the Braves, while Dalton Hunter (18:33) was third. Voorheesville’s Brian Hotopp (19:24) was fourth and Voorheesville’s Breaden Morrison (19:27) completed the top five.

Also posting top-10 finishes for FFCS were Danny Westman (sixth, 20:20), Clane Newcomer (seventh, 20:43), Damien Freeman (eighth, 21:01) and Jason Klotz (ninth, 22:21).

In the girls meet, Voorheesville posted a win over an incomplete FFCS squad.

Voorheesville’s Courtney Reilly won the 3.1-mile girls race with a time of 21:17. Fonda-Fultonville’s Kacie Hunter (22:09) was second, Voorheesville’s Stephanie Erickson (23:18) was third, Fonda-Fultonville’s Carly Littlejohn (24:19) was fourth and Voorheesville’s Faith Cunningham (24:32) was fifth. Jamie Kasza (24:59) was sixth for the Lady Braves.
