Boys Soccer Roundup: Northville suffers first defeat

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Nick Cavotta and Liam Rice scored to lead Saratoga Central Catholic to a 2-0 win over Northville in a Western Athletic Conference boys soccer contest Friday.

It was the first loss of the season for the Falcons.

Michael Naughton had an assist for the Saints.

Joe Schmidt made seven saves for Saratoga Catholic (8-3-1 overall, 8-3-1 WAC).

Tim Monette made four saves for Northville (10-1-3 overall, 10-1-3 WAC).

Mayfield 2, Galway 0

GALWAY – Todd Briggs scored both goals, leading Mayfield to a shutout win over Galway in a Western Athletic Conference North Division contest.

Riley Yager and Jack Albertin each had an assist for the Panthers, who outshot the Golden Eagles 7-5.

Lucas VanNostrand had five saves to post the shutout win in goal for Mayfield (8-4-2 overall, 8-4-2 WAC).

Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville 5, Fort Plain 2

FORT PLAIN – Tristan Engle scored four goals, lifting Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a WAC North Division win over Fort Plain.

Devan Battisti also scored for the Wolves and had two assists. Ezra Lynch also had an assist for Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (7-4-1 overall, 7-4-1 WAC).

Nate Trumbull made five saves for the Wolves.

Fort Plain slipped to 4-9 overall and 4-9 in WAC play.

Schoharie 4, Sharon Springs 1

SCHOHARIE – Chris O’Neill scored twice, lifting Schoharie to a victory over Sharon Springs in a WAC South Division contest.

Morgan Henry had a goal and an assist for the Indians, while Zach Frisbee also scored.

Rich Marino added two assists for Schoharie (9-2-2 overall, 9-1-2 WAC).

Dustin Tripp scored the lone goal for Sharon Springs on an assist from Mason Handy.

Justin Montione made five saves for the Indians, while Matt Jozifek and Tyler Bianchine combined to make seven saves for the Spartans.

Big 10

Amsterdam 2, Schenectady 1

SCHENECTADY – Greyson Mullins and Dom Torres scored for Amsterdam in a win over Schenectady.

Andrew DiSalvi and Allen Long each had an assist for the Rams (5-5-1 overall, 3-5-1 Big 10), who won their third straight game.

Mukan Cakmak scored the lone goal for Schenectady on an assist from Allen Long.

Northern Soccer League

Wells 4, Minerva-Newcomb 1

MINERVA – Matt Michienzi finished with two goals and an assist, leading Wells to a win over Minerva-Newcomb.

Seth Weaver had a goal and an assist for the Indians, while Kenny Chicoski also scored. Nick Taylor added an assist for Wells.

The game was tied 1-1 at the half before Wells outscored the Minerva-Newcomb 3-0 in the second half to earn the win.

Daghan Karaali scored the lone goal for Minerva-Newcomb on a first-half penalty kick.

Ben Brenan made 13 saves for Wells (9-1 overall, 9-1 NSL), which outshot the Mountaineers 32-15.

Alex Ruzbacki made 12 saves for Minerva-Newcomb.

On Wednesday, Wells topped Johnsburg 3-0 at home.

Weaver scored twice for the Indians, while Michienzi scored one.

Tyler Peck, Stephen Raymond and Taylor each had an assist for Wells, which outshot the Jaguars 19-10.

Brenan made 11 saves to post the shutout win in goal.

Mark Cleveland made 11 saves for Johnsburg.

Foothills Council

Queensbury 1, Scotia-Glenville 1

QUEENSBURY – Allistaine McFarlane scored the lone goal for Queensbury in a tie with Scotia-Glenville.

Jimmy Doty had an assist for the Spartans (12-1-1 overall, 10-1-1 Foothills).

Owen Fingar scored the lone goal for Scotia-Glenville (7-4-1 Foothills).

Tyler Raymond made three saves for Queensbury, while Adam Ashcroft made seven stops for the Tartans.
