H.S. Football Roundup: Queensbury posts 48-28 win over Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM – Queensbury used a strong start and held off a determined effort by Amsterdam to post a 48-28 win in a Class A Northwest football contest Friday at Lynch Literacy Academy

Queensbury led 12-0 after one quarter after a 53-yard scoring run by Chris Goudy and a 1-yard touchdown run from Michael Ditrola.

Amsterdam got on the board in the second quarter when Julian Gallup threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Isabel.

Queensbury (5-0 overall, 3-0 Class A Northwest) made it 20-7 at the half when Brett Rodriguez scored on a 9-yard touchdown run to close out the second-quarter scoring.

The Rams pulled ahead early in the second half, scoring 14 straight points to open the third quarter.

Gallup, who had three touchdown passes in the game, threw a 72-yard TD pass to Bryan Stanavich to make it 20-14. JV Valentin then scored on a 24-yard pass from Gallup and Marcus Pritchard added the third of his four extra points to give the Rams a 21-20 lead.

Queensbury regained the lead and took control by outscoring Amsterdam 28-7 the rest of the way.

Tim Voorhis scored on runs of 1 and 8 yards for the Spartans, while Rodriguez added a 58-yard punt return for a score. Kalen Minott scored on a 19-yard run for Queensbury in the third quarter.

Gallup scored the final points for the Rams on a 17-yard touchdown run.

Amsterdam (3-2 overall, 1-1 Class A Northwest) will travel to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake next Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.

Class C South

Chatham 44, Fonda-Fultonville 14

CHATHAM – Tyler Van Brunt rushed for 203 yards and four touchdown on 11 carries, powering Chatham to a win over Fonda-Fultonville in a battle of Class C South Division unbeatens.

VanBrunt, who also had an interception, scored on runs of 15, 5, 2 and 78 yards for the Panthers.

Troy Pierce added a 13 yard touchdown run for Chatham (5-0 overall, 4-0 Class C South), while Tyler Rivera scored on a 67-yard touchdown run.

Al Kelly added 128 yards on 12 carries for the Panthers.

Russ Williams threw two touchdown passes for Fonda-Fultonville (4-1 overall, 4-1 Class C South). Williams threw a 27-yard pass to Brandon Baker for a score in the first quarter and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Cam Ives in the third quarter.

Williams finished 9-for-21 for 177 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Pat Hart led FFCS on the ground with 123 yards on 25 carries. Baker had six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown.

The Braves are scheduled to host Coxsackie-Athens next Saturday at 1 p.m.
