Dorothy P. Rockwell
Dorothy P. Rockwell, 97, formerly of Gloversville, passed away late Friday evening, September 27, 2013, at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
Born on November 6, 1915, in Gloversville, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John and Ida (Deckro) Peclet. She had lived in Fonda during her childhood years.
Mrs. Rockwell married Wallace A. Rockwell on August 12, 1939. Wallace passed away in April of 1965. Ironically Dorothy passed away on what would have been Wallace’s 100th birthday.
She was a dedicated member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville, where she was active as a choir mother and also occasionally taught Sunday School. Dorothy was also active in the community and civic organizations, including the Johnstown VFW Auxiliary, the Johnstown Women of the Moose, the Ida McGinnis Sr. Citizens Center and the Gloversville Sr. Citizens Center. When raising her children, she was a member of the PTA and was a Girl Scout leader.
Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, often making afghans for her family and friends, but her greatest joy and accomplishment was caring for her ever growing family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and could often be found at their sporting events, recitals and functions. Dorothy found great joy in babysitting and spending time with all of them.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, John and Edward Peclet.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Newell J. Rockwell of Wynantskill and Katherine R. (John) Tagliaferri of Gloversville; grandchildren, John (Kelly) Tagliaferri, Jason Tagliaferri, Jeremy (Melissa) Rockwell, and Courtney (Adam) Shepard; stepgrandchildren, Marissa (James) Stevens and Jason (Klaire) Knapp; great-grandchildren, Capri Tagliaferri, Ashley Rockwell, Jena Shepard, Katelyn Marie Rockwell and Giovanni Tagliaferri; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kendra Stevens and Kaedence Stevens; half-brother, William Weeper; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Senior Citizen Service Center of Gloversville & Fulton Co., Inc., 53 Church Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to a charity of one’s choice.
