Canjo library offers writing class

CANAJOHARIE – The Canajoharie Library will offer a four-part flash-fiction writing class for novice and intermediate writers.

The series will start Tuesday and run each Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. through Oct. 22.

Naton Leslie will lead the program.

Flash fiction is a hybrid between a short story and a poem, a news release said. Flash fiction is a story boiled down to its essence and is generally less than 1,000 words.

All aspects of writing flash fiction will be explored in the class, from sourcing material to shaping and producing finished work.

Leslie has published more than 50 memoirs and essays in leading literary magazines nationwide. His work has been anthologized in Best American Essays. The recipient of many awards, including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, Leslie teaches writing and literature at Siena College in Loudonville, the news release said.

Space is limited. Attendance at all parts is required to sign up. People can register online at or by calling the library. There is no fee to register for the class.
