Gordon Tubbs, 98, of Gloversville, passed away, Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House after a short illness. He was born on March 22, 1915, in Fine, N.Y., the son of the late Glenn and Evelyn Johnson Tubbs. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Miriam Elizabeth Marsh, on December 2002. He was also predeceased by his brother, Kenneth; and his sisters, Mary Stone and Audrey Amo; as well as a granddaughter, Charlana Emurian.
Survivors include his daughters, Glenna and her husband, Dale Matthews of New Castle, Delaware and Cheryl and her husband, Mel Emurian of Gloversville; grandson, Jason Matthews; granddaughter, Laurel Emurian; and stepgrandson, Erik Emurian and his wife, Bree and their children, Chloe and Zane; one sister-in-law, Carol Mc Eathron (Jim) of Red Hook, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
The majority of his working years were at the Newton Falls Paper Mill in Newton Falls, N.Y., where he held several positions in the finishing department as foreman in July 1980. He kept active after his retirement as a custodian for Senior Citizen’s Housing in Star Lake, N.Y., before moving to Gloversville in June 1993. He was an avid bowler which he continued to do through the age of 97. He was on the league bowling team, Old Guys Rule, at the Arterial Lanes. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Gloversville.
Friends and family are welcome to join the family in a celebration of life on Friday, September 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, with the Rev. Mel Emurian officiating.
