Lois Nesbitt Davis
Lois Nesbitt Davis, 92, of Fonda, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late James Garfield and Ann McBride Nesbitt. She was born May 18, 1921, in Schuylerville, N.Y.
Her family moved to Menands, where Lois went on to graduate from the Milne School; she then attended Syracuse University. She married Erastus Corning Davis III on August 15, 1942. They moved to Fonda, where they raised three children. Lois worked for many years in the Montgomery County Treasurer’s Office, Election Office, and Court System, retiring as an octogenarian. She enjoyed a good book, swimming, playing bridge and pinochle, delicious cuisine at Saltsman’s Restaurant and watching the Fox News Channel. Lois loved her family and her many friends. She also enjoyed summers in the Adirondacks and winters in Florida. Lois enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Alaska, Ireland, Scotland and England. Lois was a devoted longtime member of the Fonda Reformed Church.
Lois was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Erastus Corning Davis III, in 2011. She was also predeceased by her grandson, David Stott; sister-in-law, Lois Nesbitt; and siblings, James, John and infant, Robert Nesbitt.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Norma) Davis of Albany and James Davis of Fonda; and a daughter, Lydia (Anthony Sr.) Cacace of Canton, Mich. Cherished grandchildren are Elizabeth (Javier), Cassandra and Anthony Cacace Jr.; beloved great-grandchildrenm Nathaniel and Angelina; a special niece and nephew, Sharon (Jim) Gebhardt and John Nesbitt. Grandnephews, Christopher Farrell, “JT” Gebhardt; and grandniece, Jennifer Gebhardt also survive.
A funeral service for Lois will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville NY 12072. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. before the service at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Fonda Reformed Church, Broadway in Fonda.
