Man killed dog with sword: police
BLEECKER – A Gloversville man was charged by the state police after allegedly killing a dog with a samurai sword.
John A. Morey, 25, of Gloversville was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, on Sept. 10.
Troopers said they arrested Morey after local police learned the dog in question was killed while they were investigating a dog-bite incident.
Troopers said Morey claimed his dog had bitten three people and he could not control it anymore. Troopers said Morey claimed he attempted to give the dog away but was unsuccessful.
“[Morey] used the samurai sword to kill the dog by [pushing] down on the neck, cutting the dog,” according to information from state police.
Troopers said Morey was brought to the scene from Mayfield, and troopers recovered the dog and the sword. The dog was turned over to local police for a rabies test.
Morey was arraigned and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond to reappear Sept. 16.
