Gloversville seniors list special events
GLOVERSVILLE – The following information is for the Senior Citizen Service Center of Gloversville & Fulton County, 53 Church St.
On Monday at 9 a.m., an art class; from 9 to 11 a.m., shingles presentation with free blood pressure screenings; at 1 p.m. will be the Gloversville 50-55 Plus Club meeting.
On Tuesday at 9 a.m., morning coffee and conversation; at 12:30 p.m., an art class with Cheryl Bielli.
On Wednesday at 9 a.m., Wii bowling.
On Thursday at 10 a.m., the bread pickup.
On Friday at 11 a.m., Writers Circle.
On Sept. 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. is the breakfast nook program.
Program participants meet on Saturday mornings, and the event features special breakfasts and an activity after, a news release said.
On Sept. 14 there will be Italian breakfast casserole, toasted French bread, along with fresh fruit. For this day only, as an appreciation for attending the program, all senior citizen breakfast meals will be free, the release said.
On Sept. 16, the Rite Aid flu clinic will take place. The first appointment starts at 9 a.m. It is necessary to call the center and reserve a spot so the shot can be ordered for each one who wants to be vaccinated.
On Sept. 19, will be a Life Line screening at the center. Know how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke. If anyone is experiencing any of the following symptoms, call 911; it is important to seek medical treatment immediately.
Loss of coordination.
Sudden loss of vision.
Sudden intense headache.
Brief loss of consciousness.
Participate in the Life Line screening to find out the risk of having a stroke. Through ultrasound the carotid arteries are evaluated for the buildup of fatty plaque, which is the leading cause of stroke.

On Oct. 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will be an American Association of Retired Persons driving course at the center. The cost will be $17 for AARP members and $19 for non-members. There are a few spots left for this class; call and reserve a spot.
