CRG schedules site selector tour
JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton County Center for Regional Growth will bring in a site selector to review the county’s business and economic assets from Sept. 5 to 6, an agency official said Monday.
CRG President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Reese said the selector’s name is not being released at this time and the person’s visit is not meant as a public event. But he said the CRG has scheduled the site selector to tour the county for a couple days. He said the selector will conduct a press conference at the culmination of the visit Sept. 6.
Reese announced in late spring the CRG would be getting more into the site selection process.
Site selectors typically are consultants who help businesses find the optimal location for construction or expansion of their facilities. Factors they consider include accessibility to and availability of customers, space costs, size, physical characteristics, zoning regulations, tax incentives and quality of the local workforce.
Reese said previously if the CRG could find a site selector to visit Fulton County, he might want the person to meet with members of the Board of Supervisors on ways to market the county.
“They come in and look everything over and try to bring in clients,” board Chairman William Waldron said of site selectors.
He said he was aware of the upcoming visit, but isn’t sure if the selector will be meeting with county supervisors. He said the CRG will probably at least issue a report on the visit to the county.
Reese said the CRG continues to have serious discussions with an undisclosed private development company to buy the Estee Commons property in Gloversville. He said he met in a closed-door executive session with the Gloversville Common Council about the company.
“There’s still a strong interest,” Reese said. “They were back visiting the building last week.”
Reese said the CRG has also strengthened its marketing and has a new slogan, “Rich in Resources and Bold Ideas,” now leads every agency communication. He said the new slogan replaces the longtime slogan, “Easy as E-D-C.”
“It’s kind of a tagline we’re using on our website,” he said.
Reese issued a memo last week to CRG members stating, “We’re letting the world know about our rich infrastructure, our great people, and our business-ready government through blog posts, LinkedIn, Facebook and on regional radio.”
“We’d love your support for our new marketing initiative,” Reese wrote members. “We’re reaching out this year to more site selectors and business owners around the country to introduce them to Fulton County. In support of this, we’ve hired marketing agency Shannon Rose Design, run by Fulton County’s own Richard Kline, to build our online presence, put our more publicity, and to help us build excitement within the county.”
