Break cycle of violence
The recent arrest of a Gloversville teenager charged with killing his girlfriend’s cat during a domestic dispute is a grim reminder of how forms of violence are related.
Cruelty to animals is, unfortunately, common when one partner tries to punish or threaten another, and for someone so young to be allegedly exhibiting this extreme behavior is cause for alarm.
Fortunately, there is a national mental health assessment and treatment program called AniCare that was developed specifically to address these circumstances. By getting to the root of such behavior, trained counselors can help stop it before it repeats or escalates.
It is my sincere hope the prosecutors and judge in this case will use all available means to help break this cycle of violence before anyone else is harmed.
