Lauren R. McMurray
Lauren R. McMurray, 65, of Hatzenbuhler Road, Broadalbin, died unexpectedly Monday, August 5, 2013.
He was born in Amsterdam on November 4, 1947, a son of E. Russell and Dorothea J. Bennett McMurray. He was a 1965 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Lauren later attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College before serving as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Lauren owned and operated Amsterdam Auto Radiator Inc. and MBL Marine Service. He was also a part-owner of McMurray’s Boat Livery, which was established in 1930 by his grandfather, and later ran by his parents. Lauren was a former member and served as first assistant fire chief at the Fultonville Fire Department. He was a member of the Kennyetto Fire Company, the Broadalbin Planning Board, and the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin.
Lauren was a proud member of the NRA. He was a NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed waterskiing, photography, and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Lauren was best known for being hard-working, a family man, a straight shooter and a true American.
Survivors include his daughters, Heather J. (Timothy) Ryczek and Brianne L. (Anthony) Zanella, all of Broadalbin, Melissa A. Scott of Feeding Hills, Mass., and Tricia L. Batey of Amsterdam; a sister, Arlana J. McMurray (Glenn Mosier) of Broadalbin; seven grandchildren, Peyton and Raelyn Ryczek, Mia Zanella, Devin and Hailey Scott, and Aaron and Tess Batey; and his faithful canine companion, Kiely.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown. Lakeside funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at McMurray’s Boat Livery, with the Rev. David Deuel. Burial with military honors will follow at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kennyetto Fire Company or to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, both in care of the funeral home.
