Senior center reports on activities
JOHNSTOWN – The Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center Bocce League started at 10 a.m. this past Tuesday by the Washington Street Park. After the games and lunch, some of the women came back to the center for bingo.
The center has a new schedule for the American Association of Retired Persons class. The next one will be Aug. 14; call the center to sign up or for more information.
The Office or the Aging picnic at the Concordia Park is Aug. 1. Anyone who needs to obtain a ticket now needs to get them directly at OFA. For more information, call OFA at 736-5650; the center no longer has tickets.
The Johnstown 50 Plus Club will be done with its vacation soon.
At 1:15 p.m. Aug. 8, the guest speaker will be Officer Mike Millias from the Johnstown Police Department, who will present information on current area scams directed at senior citizens. There are always new ways out there to take advantage of people, a news release said.
At 6 p.m. Aug. 9, the club will be hosting its ice cream social in the park prior to the band concert.
On Aug. 15, the club will have a day trip to Pine Lake for its annual club picnic. There are still a few seats available on the bus if anyone would like to join the group, a news release said. There is no price difference for members and non-members. There will be a contest at the picnic: wear or design the best beach hat or bonnet and take a chance to win a prize.
On Aug. 22, the 50 Plus Club will host another movie day.
The club has rented the Movie Plex and is opening the day to all area seniors. It is not necessary to be a member of this club – just show up at 11 a.m. for a choice from three different movies, selection to follow soon, pay $3 and see the movie of choice, and all the free popcorn and soda people want.
There are still some openings on the Lake Placid overnight trip scheduled for Sept. 18 and 19, and will include a guided tour of the Olympic sites. Stop by the center at 109 E. Main St. or call the center at 762-4643 for more details.
