Gloversville Civic Band will perform Melchoir Park in
The Gloversville Civic Band will start its summer concert series Wednesday. With the cooperation and encouragement of Mayor Dayton King, the Common Council and DPW, we are very pleased to be able to perform once again in beautiful, serene Melchoir Park on Kingsboro Avenue. Concerts will be held on five consecutive Wednesdays through Aug. 14, starting at 7 p.m.
The Civic Band has provided wonderful music for decades to the residents of Gloversville and the surrounding area. Thanks to the financial support from dozens of generous, loyal patrons and businesses, the concerts are free to the public. If anyone would like to donate, please make your check payable to and send to: Gloversville Citizen’s Band Inc., P.O. Box 984, Gloversville, NY 12078.
The band conductor is Tom Gerbino, assisted by Josh Thompson. Longtime conductor Norm Clo is still active and enjoys performing at each concert. The band plays a great mix of music: Broadway show tunes, movie themes, classical, pop, marches, even polkas. They play something for everyone’s enjoyment. Throughout the summer you will hear hits from diverse composers such as Irving Berlin, Lee Roy Anderson, Mancini, Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Chicago, Lee Greenwood, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Bach, and more. You name it, the band can play it. Comprised of about 40 excellent musicians, the sound is powerful and fantastic. Once you hear them you’ll want to attend each and every concert. This band is Gloversville’s best kept secret.
So come to Melchoir Park this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Our first concert is titled “Salute to America” and will have a strong patriotic theme. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, relax and enjoy.
