Amsterdam man gets 40 years in prison in child sex abuse case

FONDA – An Amsterdam man was sentenced to 40 years in state prison Thursday after being convicted of sexually abusing two children and endangering the lives of two more.

Pedro “Alex” Ressy, 35, of 317 W. Main St., Amsterdam, was found guilty of all charges in a six-count indictment back in March. The indictment included two felony counts of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Judge Felix Catena also issued four orders of protection with an expiration date in 2060, 20 years of post-release supervision and state sex offender registration.

According to Assistant District Attorney Sarah Leszczynski, the charges occurred between late 2008 and June 2011. The felony charges involve two children, but four children were involved with the case resulting in the four endangerment charges.

Leszczynski said she requested Ressy receive the maximum penalty for his conviction. Each felony charge is 25 years, so his conviction carried a potential of 50 years in prison.

Catena sentenced Ressy to two consecutive 20-year prison sentences for each felony, and a year in jail for each count of endangering the welfare of a child. The jail sentencings will be merged with the state prison terms.

Leszczynski said Ressy has been on parole five separate times, including the time period when the sexual abuse crimes occurred.

Ressy is currently incarcerated at the Cape Vincent Correctional Facility. He is being held there for a second-degree robbery conviction which resulted in a six-year sentence.
