Mohawks roll past Adirondack, 17-7

BOONVILLE – The Amsterdam Mohawks pounded out 18 hits in a 17-7 win over the Adirondack Trail Blazers in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest Tuesday.

The Mohawks, who are the defending champions of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, improved to 4-6 as they won consecutive games for the first time this season. Adirondack fell to 3-5 overall.

Dylan Smith (Auburn) and Kyle Barrett (Kentucky) each socked two-run homers early in the game. Both players had just returned to the lineup after spending significant time on the shelf with early-season injuries. Barrett finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored.

The 17 runs is the all-time franchise high for the Mohawks in their three seasons in the PGCBL as was their 18-hit output. Amsterdam had scored 16 runs two different times in the past couple of seasons.

Ronnie Bernick (Canisius) had a three-run double as part of a big six-run rally in the sixth inning when Amsterdam extended their lead to 13-3.

Brian Ruby (Binghamton) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.

Adirondack trimmed the margin to 13-7 by the seventh, but the Mohawks finally put the game away for good with four more tallies in the eighth.

Riley Moonan had three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs, to lead Adirondack.

The Mohawks return to Shuttleworth Park Wednesday night against the Elmira Pioneers with lefty Dylan Dwyer (Kentucky) starting for Amsterdam. They also have a Fireworks Night game against Glens Falls

scheduled for Friday.
