Carol A. Schwed

Mrs. Carol A. Schwed, age 62, of Gloversville, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, with her family and friends at her side.

She was born June 19, 1950 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Alice Benware Reynolds and the late Hugh Reynolds. She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. She later worked in Washington, DC for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and in Atlanta, GA as a Legal Assistant/Secretary. Locally, Carol was a salesperson/broker for Salvione Realty, an Appraiser for Don Cross and also worked for the Fulton County Real Property Service. She later became Assessor for the Town of Caroga. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and served as Councilwoman for the City of Gloversville from 1989 to 1991. She was also appointed Deputy City Mayor of Gloversville by the late Mayor Abraham Seroussi.

Carol was involved in puppy mill rescue over the years and fostered many specific needs for dogs. Her pet survivors Bailey, Bella, Bree, Maxi and Zack meant the world to her. In 2005 Carol became owner and operator of BloomingTails Dog Boutique, which has been featured in “Modern Dog” and “Doggie Aficianado” magazines. Dog clothing from the boutique has also appeared on the television show “Ugly Betty”. Carol has been active in many local, state and national dog organizations.

She was married on November 2, 1999 to James A. Schwed who survives. Also surviving are: three children: Shannon L. Payne (Todd) of Northville, Jeremy L. Jarabek of Gloversville and Heather Reppenhagen of Albany; her mother, Alice O’Brien of Gloversville; two sisters and a brother: Kathy Cornell (Larry) of Broadalbin, Robert Hojohn of Perth and Beth Basco of Gloversville; many grandchildren, one great-grandson, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves behind three stepchildren: Richard Schwed (Juanita) of Gloversville, Philip Schwed of Denver, CO and Deborah L. Orsell (Tom) of Johnstown.

Carol was predeceased by two brothers: David Reynolds and Bruce Hojohn.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 17th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
