Volunteers, groups gave Rally big boost

I wanted to take the time to thank all the volunteers and community organizations that assisted Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County NY in making the second annual Rally in the Valley 5K and Duathlon a major success. Not only did we provide a fun, healthy event for those both in our community and in surrounding areas, but we raised needed funds that helped bring us one step closer to our goal of building our first home in Montgomery County.

The race would not be possible without our major sponsor, St. Mary’s Healthcare, as well as MCT Federal Credit Union, Liberty ARC, Alpin Haus, the Amsterdam Mohawks, Amedore Homes, Brown Coach, Quandt’s, Lamont Engineers and Hannaford. We are very appreciative of their support.

A special thank you is also due to the many volunteers who helped keep cyclists safe on the course and able to quench their thirst, and accomplished many other essential race-day duties. We couldn’t have done it without the tremendous support of the state police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Montgomery County Emergency Management, Fort Hunter Engine and Hose Company and the Glen, Florida and Fultonville volunteer fire departments. It was a true team effort and we thank them for all of their help.

Thankfully, everyone was safe and sound as they completed the 5k course and a grueling 20-mile bike on a hot day.

More importantly, we all came together to raise funds for a worthy cause. Stay tuned, because we have some exciting projects scheduled to begin shortly that will truly make a difference in the lives of people in our community. We will post updates on our projects and all the race photos on HFHMCNY’s Facebook page, so be sure to “like” our page to stay connected.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, we can’t thank you all enough. We are already looking forward to our third annual Rally in the Valley next year.
