Two charged after exchange of gunfire
AMSTERDAM – Two men were arrested Saturday after an exchange of gunfire on Grand Street in which one of them suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
City police said they responded to a call about a man leaning out of a window at 218 Grand St. with a shotgun.
Witnesses alleged three Hispanic males fled the scene after shots were fired, police said, and officers found men at the intersection of Locust Avenue and Willow Street.
One of the men, Angel M. DeAngelo Sr., 40, of 79 Bunn St., was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was treated for an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head. DeAngelo was later released from the hospital.
Police say investigation of the incident revealed DeAngelo and two other men went to 218 Grand St. after an earlier incident between one of them and a resident of that address.
Police said the men argued and then Christian J. Garcia, 21, a resident at 218 Grand St., fired several rounds from a 12-gauge shotgun out of a window of his second-floor apartment.
DeAngelo then allegedly returned fire using a handgun, police said.
Police said they recovered the shotgun as well as two spent shells and four live rounds, all found at 218 Grand St. Police said they have not yet found the handgun they believe was used in the incident.
Garcia was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree menacing.
DeAngelo was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree menacing.
Both were arraigned in City Court by Judge Lisa Lorman and sent to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of bail.
