Dorothy Dziewit

Mrs. Dorothy Dziewit, 90, of the town of Perth, died May 29, 2013, at River Ridge Living Center, Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on September 27, 1922, she was the daughter of Louis and Josephine Kowalski Cooper.

She was a 1940 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a lifelong area resident.

On September 2, 1944, she was married to Fred Dziewit at St. Stanislaus Church. He died July 23, 2005.

Mrs. Dziewit was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and attended St. James Major Church at Lake Pleasant when at the family camp in the Adirondacks.

She was retired from General Electric Co. in Schenectady. Dorothy was a member of the G.E. Women’s Club. She was a longtime member of the Amsterdam YMCA, served on its board and as treasurer of the Women’s Association of the Y. She was also a member Fulton County YMCA in Gloversville. Dorothy was a member of the Perth Senior Citizens Club and served as secretary and as president for six terms.

Mrs. Dziewit was a continuing-education student, and after years of evening classes, she graduated magna cum laude in 1995 from Fulton-Montgomery Community College. She was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed the classical studies.

Dorothy enjoyed swimming and competed successfully in state and regional senior swim meets. She also enjoyed golf, skiing, bicycling, flower gardening and live theater. Her greatest delight was that her grandchildren lived close, affording many trips together and frequent family dinners and parties. Each grandchild received a letter each week when away at college.

Mrs. Dziewit is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Jazeboski, a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Roberta Jevitt, all of Scotia. Five grandchildren also survive: Steven Jazeboski and wife, April, Sheila Jazeboski Crouse and husband, Patrick, Jeffrey Jevitt, Tamara Jevitt Carney and husband, Christopher, and Daniel Jevitt and wife, Michelle. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Kevin and Emily Carney and Nicholas and Benjamin Jazeboski.

Mrs. Dziewit was predeceased by sisters Caroline, Helen, Genevieve and Marcella; and brothers Richard and Bernard.

The family is so grateful for the loving staff and residents at River Ridge Living Center, who made the last few years fun; they would always join Dorothy in a chorus of “Jada-Jada” and “Happy Trails.” Thank you to all for your kindness.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church.

Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the funeral home.
