Sleezer honored by?Wells College

AURORA – Gloversville graduate Matthew Sleezer, a junior at Wells College, and Ashley Roser were tabbed as the 2012-13 male and female Student-Athletes of the Year for their performances across the prior academic year. Nominations were submitted and voted on by the athletics staff.

Sleezer, a three-year member of the men’s swimming program, concluded his junior season by claiming the 2012-13 NEAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year award at the conference’s Swimming and Diving Championships in mid-February.

In the men’s 50-yard freestyle in the championships, Sleezer posted a program record time of 21.94 seconds, eclipsing his previous personal record of 22.48 set Nov. 3.

Additionally, Sleezer bested his own record of 50.17 seconds in the men’s 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.02 in the championship’s final day of competition.

Sleezer also combined with three of his teammates to set the fastest mark in program history in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:02.17.

A two-time winner of NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week in 2012-13, Sleezer has won NEAC first-team all-conference in three straight seasons.

During the regular season, Sleezer also posted the second best time in program history in the men’s 50-yard freestyle (22.48, Nov. 3, 2012) and also recorded the best time in program history in the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:36.93 on Oct. 11, 2012.

Sleezer also was voted Most Valuable Swimmer for men’s swim team.
