Margaret Brodeur Scarpa
Margaret Brodeur Scarpa, 81, of Woodworth Lake Road, Gloversville, N.Y., died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Known by her loved ones as Peg, she was born in Meriden, Conn. on June 25, 1931. Peg was one of twelve children of Rudolph and Cecile Rouleau Brodeur and was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury, Conn. Mrs. Scarpa also attended community college for accounting, and resided in Bleecker for nearly thirty years as the center of her family.
In her early years, Peg was a pioneer in organic gardening and co-owned an organic apple cider vinegar business.
Mrs. Scarpa was an accomplished folk artist, loved playing the piano, gardening, reading, discussing philosophy, knitting, and crocheting. Among other interests, she had a wonderful sense of humor and loved nature. Most of all, Peg loved her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all.
She was predeceased by a son, Mario F. Scarpa, who died May 26, 2000.
Survivors include her children, Maria, Benedetta, Anne, Christopher, Emmanuel, Joseph, Grace, Angela, Carmella, and Peter; thirteen grandchildren; eight surviving siblings; and the father of her children, Mario J. Scarpa.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown, with Col. Gary W. Howard, U.S. Army retired, officiating.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
