Free paint available to county residents
JOHNSTOWN – Fulton County residents with home painting projects can take up to five gallons of free paint per week through the Fulton County Latex Paint Exchange at the Solid Waste Department, 847 Mud Road.
The Latex Paint Exchange is open every Saturday from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. throughout the summer, from June 1 to Aug. 31.
Fulton County residents can take up to five gallons of latex paint per week for free (on a first come, first-served basis). Residents who want to dispose of their old but still useable latex paint can drop it off during the same hours. There is no limit on paint dropped off. All donated paint is opened and checked to make sure it is useable before being given out to the public.
Fulton County residents are advised they can also dispose of empty paint cans or bad paint (once it is solidified) in their regular garbage. Paint must be completely dried up, and the lids removed from cans before they are disposed of with household garbage. If there is any liquid paint remaining, let the can sit open until it is dried up, or mix in kitty litter, sawdust or sand, and let the can sit uncovered until it is solid, before including in with garbage.
Oil-based paints, stains, automotive paint and other non-latex paint should be disposed of at the next Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Program, which will be Aug. 10.
