Marina zone change OK’d in Mayfield
JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton County Planning Board on Tuesday decided to stay neutral on a zoning change involving the village of Mayfield, which later that day gained final approval from the Village Board.
County Senior Planner Sean Geraghty asked county Planning Board members to conduct the Mayfield zoning review as part of a state General Municipal Law requirement placed on the county.
Geraghty said the zoning change is at the intersection of Hanes Road and School Street. He said what was proposed was the rezoning of six parcels in and around the intersection.
The parcels currently have a Residential District classification. The village wanted to change the zoning to a Marina District classification, which is a new zoning classification for the village. A list of allowed uses in the district, as well as a schedule of area-dimensional requirements, has been established for the new district.
Mayfield Code Enforcement Officer Michael Stewart said Wednesday the Village Board on Tuesday night voted to make the change. He said the new owner of Mayfield Marina – Brenda Boice – is looking to the future.
“She’s going to maintain the marina,” Stewart said.
But Stewart also said Boice may have to deal with some structural issues. She may consider opening a restaurant there.
In other county Planning Board business Tuesday at the Fort Johnstown Annex, Geraghty reported the state Office of Local Government Services has agreed to conduct training sessions this fall at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. He said this year’s sessions will occur in September.
