Babette Roseltha Davis Frisbie, 89, of Gloversville passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville following a long illness.
Babette was born on September 19, 1923, to Albert Elger Davis and Alice Roseltha (Fowler) Davis of Kinderhook.
Babette was a graduate of Martin Van Buren High School and was salutatorian of her class. She graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education. Babette did additional graduate studies at Syracuse University in the Doctoral Studies Program and at the State University at Albany, earning her school superintendent certification.
She taught social studies and English in the senior high school in Kinderhook. Babette was the curriculum coordinator for the Gloversville Enlarged School District from 1958 until 1972. She then worked as project director of redesign for Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES until her retirement in 1975.
On June 29, 1959, she married Gerald R. “Bob” Frisbie, and they shared 59 years together.
Following her retirement from education, Babette and her husband, Bob, owned and operated Brickwood Antiques until their second retirement in 2007.
She was a member of the Foothills Methodist Church, a previous active member of the former First United Methodist Church in Bleecker Square in Gloversville and the former Johnstown United Methodist Church, having served in several administrative positions. Babette was a life member of the Fulton County Historical Society and the New York State Retired Teachers Association, and she was also a member of the Salisbury Historical Society. She and her husband were former co-presidents of the Friends of the Gloversville Library. One of her greatest enjoyments was attending the annual reunions of her students of the Class of 1955.
Babette was predeceased by her parents and two Aunts, Claribel Fowler Parsons and Pamelia Fowler.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Gerald “Bob” Frisbie of Gloversville, and her beloved cat, Puff.
In accordance with Babette’s wishes, cremation will take place at Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. The family will have a private and special prayer service with the Rev. Richard Sears officiating.
