Police: Man charged after bruises found on 3-year-old
GLOVERSVILLE – A city man was arrested Monday after an investigation revealed he left bruises on the body of a 3-year-old child, city police said.
Marc Nichols, 41, of 51 Yale St., Apartment 6, was charged by city police Monday with endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. The charges are misdemeanors.
Police said at about 9:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the Nichols’ address to check on the welfare of a 25-year-old female and her 3-year-old daughter.
Family members were concerned because the child was not at daycare, police said.
While an officer was speaking with the woman and her boyfriend, Nichols – who is also known as Marc Depa – the officer noticed the child had injuries and bruises on her body, police said.
Capt. John Sira said this morning the child was not Nichols’ daughter.
Police said a detective was called to the scene and the child was taken to a doctor to have the injuries examined and the child was later taken to Albany Medical Center for further evaluation.
During the course of the investigation, police said, it was learned Nichols caused the injuries to the child over one month.
He was processed at the department and arraigned before Acting City Court Judge Joan Antonik before being sent to the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $250 cash bail.
Police said this morning Nichols is still incarcerated and the investigation remains open.
