Fire damages house in city

GLOVERSVILLE – Several residents of 44 Third St. escaped a house fire early Sunday.

Four adults and six children were in the building.

The Fire Department was dispatched to the residence at 4:35 a.m., and upon arrival, all of the occupants were outside the home and smoke was visible as it emitted from the east side of the structure, according to a news release.

Firefighters entered the home to extinguish the fire, which damaged part of the single-family residence. The fire was contained to a laundry room, which sustained heavy fire, heat and smoke damage.

The bathroom sustained heavy smoke damage and the kitchen area sustained moderate smoke damage while the rest of the home sustained minor smoke damage, according to the news release.

The Fire Department said the house is habitable, but repairs will be required.

One adult of the residence sustained minor burns to both hands in an attempt to put out the fire. No firefighters were injured.

Fire investigators were requested to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Police Department and the Ambulance Service of Fulton County was on the scene to assist.
