H.S. Softball Roundup: Duanesburg tops Lady Panthers

DUANESBURG – Stephanie Rice had a double, two singles, an RBI and two runs scored, leading the Duanesburg softball team to a 10-3 win over Mayfield in the championship game of the WAC Cup on Wednesday.

Erika Kenney and Tori Powers combined to pitch a four-hitter for Duanesburg.

Hannah McGuire had a two-run double for the Eagles, while Lia Schettine added an RBI double. Alexa Lombardoni finished with two singles for Duanesburg (16-2 overall), which has won all three WAC Cup championship games.

The Eagles have won 58 straight WAC contests, with their last loss coming on May 13, 2009.

Nicole Little had a double for Mayfield (11-6 overall), while Anna Husain and Maria Messina each added a single. Caitlin Tomlinson had a single and an RBI for the Lady Panthers.

Foothills Council

South Glens Falls 14, Broadalbin-Perth 1

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Sam Hubinsky pitched a four-hitter, leading Foothills Council champion South Glens Falls to a win over Broadalbin-Perth.

Hubinsky improved to 12-2 on the season in the circle for the Bulldogs and went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Tristen Scheidecker was 2-for-4 for South Glens Falls (17-3 overall, 13-1 Foothills), while Brooke Snyder and Emily Sharpe each had doubles.

Broadalbin-Perth slipped to 5-10 overall and 5-9 in Foothills Council play.

TROY – Kaitlin DelSignore had a grand slam, double, single and six RBIs, leading Troy to a win over Amsterdam.

With the win, the Big 10 champion Flying Horses wrapped up a 12-0 league mark.

Victoria Hallett added two hits and three RBIs for Troy, while eighth-grader Hunter Levesque pitched a complete-game one-hitter to earn the win in the circle.

Amsterdam slipped to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in Big 10 play with the loss.
