Fire suspicious, authorities say
AMSTERDAM – Officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office say a fire earlier this month at a business is suspicious.
Investigator Joseph Kilmartin said the exact cause of the fire at the Route 5S location of Alpin Haus on May 1 will not be known until a report is filed by state fire investigators.
“We are following a couple of leads,” Kilmartin said.
According to a statement from Alpin Haus, the fire destroyed three customers’ recreational vehicles, totalling $500,000 to $600,000. The RVs were vehicles in the shop for repairs.
Alpin Haus claims fire investigators have determined the cause was an act of arson.
A reward of $1,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest in the investigation.
