Hazel A. Brown
Hazel A. Brown, 83, of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, May 13, 2013, at Little Falls Hospital, New York.
She was born on December 4, 1929, in Vernon, N.Y., a daughter of the late Floyd and Alta (Davis) Weaver. Hazel attended Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and graduated with the Class of 1948.
On May 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Brown at the Youker’s Bush Union Church in Oppenheim, N.Y. The couple shared a union of almost 63 years until Robert passed away on April 3, 2012.
Hazel was at one time employed as the head of housekeeping for Little Falls Hospital and for various health care facilities in our area. She was most recently a bus driver for Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and drove a bus for 10 years before her retirement several years ago.
Hazel played the piano and organ as well as sang for various churches for many years. Hazel loved gardening and flowers. Her most precious time was that spent with her grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica, always caring for them and was interested in their lives. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her community.
Hazel is survived by her beloved son, George Brown and his wife, Cheryl; her special grandchildren, Joshua Brown and his wife, Jamie, and Jessica Brown, all of Oppenheim, N.Y.; a cherished sister, Ferne Tisi; loving nieces and nephews of the Allen Family, Janie Martyniuk and her husband, Peter, Larry Allen and his wife, Verna, Gordon Allen, all of Oppenheim, N.Y.; loving nieces and nephews of the Eldred Family, Bill, Jim, Sue and Janet, all of Wisconsin and Illinois; as well as many loving great-nieces, nephews and cousins from both families.
She was predeceased by her in-laws, Harry and Marlene Eldred, Cecil Allen and Ben Tisi.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Diane DiLuzio, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Park Cemetery, Ingham’s Mills, N.Y., where Hazel will be laid to rest next to her husband, Robert.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Little Falls Hospital for their kind and compassionate care that was shown to Hazel and her family during her stay with them, especially Dr. Freund and Dr. Handy.
