H.S. Baseball Roundup: Fort Plain clinches WAC North Division title

FORT PLAIN – For the second time in 12 days, Marcus Failing pitched Fort Plain to a win over Saratoga Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Failing struck out 13, walked three and allowed four hits to lead the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 win over the Saints.

Failing, who improved to 7-0 on the season, also earned the win May 3 in a 5-2 victory over Saratoga Catholic at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy.

The win clinched the WAC North Division title for the Hilltoppers. It is the 22nd league title for Fort Plain under coach Craig Phillips, who has 693 career wins.

Zach Sweet had a double for Fort Plain (16-2 overall, 15-0 WAC), while Trent Douglas had an RBI single in the second inning. Dakota Nemecek had a double for the Hilltoppers, while Joey Ray had an RBI fielder’s choice in the third inning.

Jesse Winters and Chris Larson each had doubles for Saratoga Catholic (14-3 overall, 13-2 WAC), while Cameron Coons and Ryan Czarnecki each had singles.

Fort Plain is scheduled to host Galway today at 4:30 p.m., while Saratoga Catholic is slated to travel to Canajoharie today.

COOPERSTOWN – Kevin Twardzik, Zack Valachovic and Pat Hart all had doubles, leading Fonda-Fultonville to a win over Voorheesville at Doubleday Field.

Baylee Hall and Zak Shaw combined on a four-hitter for FFCS (9-7 overall, 8-6 Colonial).

Rich Bagley had a single and an RBI for the Braves.

Lucas Calkins also had a single for the Braves, while Connor Rose and Clyde Sammons each finished with an RBI.

Nico Church singled and had an RBI for Voorheesville (11-7 overall, 7-6 Colonial), while Mike Young had two singles.

Ryan Clayton also had a single for the Blackbirds, while Mike Chiseri added an RBI.

Fonda-Fultonville is scheduled to host Watervliet today at 4:30 p.m. before facing?Gloversville in the consolation game of the Gloversville Tournament on?Friday.

REMSEN – Garrett Shufelt, Dante LaFave and Sabastian Bullard all had doubles, leading Remsen to a win over Dolgeville.

The Rams (6-9 overall, 2-6 CSC) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

Daniel Fox and Mackenzie Ferguson each had a double for Dolgeville (7-9 overall, 3-6 CSC).

The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Mount Markham today at 4:30 p.m.
