Committee gives green light to car show
JOHNSTOWN – Fulton County officials are entertaining a request for a car and truck show to benefit the Sheriff’s Department K-9 program June 21 on the grounds of the county highway department.
The Board of Supervisors’ Buildings and Grounds-Highway Committee recently received a request from Colleen Rumrill for the event. The county reviewed her facilities use application to sponsor a WIZR K-9 Car and Truck Show on the lawns and parking lot of the County Services Complex on Route 29. It would be held from 4 to 9 p.m. June 21.
County Administrative Officer Jon Stead said Rumrill’s application requested the event be near the county sand pile area. He said county Superintendent of Highways and Facilities Mark Yost has no problems with the event.
“She indicated there shouldn’t be a problem getting the insurance coverage,” Stead said.
He said the car-truck show is being conducted to benefit the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department K-9 teams. The WIZR K-9 group sponsoring the event will arrange for cleanup.
The committee approved the proposed event, which will be voted on today by the full board. Approval is contingent upon approval by County Attorney Arthur Spring.
In other committee action involving Yost’s department:
Supervisors authorized solicitation of bids for a $2.2 million County Highway 110 pavement rehabilitation project in the towns of Broadalbin and Northampton. The road work is expected to happen over 4.25 miles on that highway – from Frenchman’s Creek to the Saratoga County line. The board will consider approving bidding today, with bids opened June 12, and a contract awarded July 8.
“I’ve got contractors calling already [interested], which is great,” Yost said.
The committee also authorized a $6,400 agreement with DMR Civil Engineering of Gloversville for detailed roof design work at the County Services Complex. The 2013 county capital plan contains $70,000 to replace the roof.
