Woman hurt in fall from window
GLOVERSVILLE – A city woman who police said was trying to avoid a confrontation with another person Tuesday was impaled in her leg by a fence after she fell from a third-story window of an apartment building on Yale Street.
City police Capt. John Sira said around 7:30 p.m., the 23-year-old woman was trying to climb out the window when she slipped and fell about 20 feet onto wooden stockade fencing, impaling one of her legs.
Sira didn’t release the woman’s name. He said her injuries were not life-threatening.
However, he said, the woman was airlifted to Albany Medical Center Hospital because of her injuries.
“She was climbing out of the window to avoid an interaction or confrontation with a person in the residence,” Sira said this morning. “She slowly lowered herself down from the third-story window and fell, impaling her leg.”
The Gloversville Police Department, Gloversville Fire Department and the Ambulance Service of Fulton County reported to the scene.
Rescuers had to lift up the woman from where she landed to get her into a position to place her on a stretcher.
