Church will host Pentecost program
GLOVERSVILLE – ?The Adult Faith Formation Team of Holy Spirit Church will host a program titled Reflections on Pentecost. The speaker for the event will be Northville native the Rev. Jay Atherton, who is pastor at St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa.
Pentecost is a festival that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, according to a news release. In Greek, it means “fiftieth day” – refering to the 50th day after Christ rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.
Atherton will talk about why Pentecost is important.
“It is one of the most important solemnities in the life of the Church and in the life of its disciples,” he said in a news release. Pentecost, he says, is worthy to be held on an equal footing with the great feasts of Christmas and Easter.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the upper classroom of the former Mount Carmel School next to Holy Spirit Church, South Main Street.
Refreshments will be available, and all are welcome.
