Pet adoption event set for today, Sunday

AMSTERDAM – The Montgomery County SPCA will partner with PetSmart Charities today and Sunday for the National Pet Adoption Weekend.

The pet adoption event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PetSmart on Route 30 in the Amsterdam Commons plaza.

The MCSPCA, which operates the Pet Adoption Center at the local store, will feature many cats and dogs from its Animal Shelter facility who are available for adoption.

“We have a wonderful assortment of cats and dogs anxiously awaiting to begin their new lives” Jan Zumbolo, president of the MCSPCA Board of Directors, said in a news release. “From lively and playful kittens to gentle, mellow senior pets to every age and personality in-between, all in need of a new forever home. Some will make a great buddy for an existing pet, while others will be happiest as your only pet. We assist adopters in choosing the cat that will best suit their lifestyle and home situation. Adopt your new best friend today!”

PetSmart Charities will award the MCSPCA a $35 adoption-reward grant for each adoption approved over the weekend.

An adoption application is required, including references and name of veterinarian. Once an application is accepted, approval of adoption will be considered following a successful home visit conducted by MCSPCA representatives.
